PRESERVE YOUR TEETH IN NEW YORK CITY

Dental insurance can help cover treatment, but it should not determine what is best for your health. Learn how patient-first, fee-for-service dentistry supports personalized and conservative care.
At Preserve Your Teeth Dentistry, our clinical decisions are based first on what each patient needs—not on what an insurance company chooses to cover.
Dental insurance can be a helpful financial benefit. Our team works diligently to help patients understand and use the benefits available under their plans. However, insurance policies contain annual maximums, exclusions, frequency restrictions, alternate-benefit provisions, and predetermined reimbursement allowances.
These limitations may determine how much an insurance company pays, but they should not determine which treatment is most appropriate for your health.
An insurance company does not examine your mouth, review the complete history of a difficult tooth, evaluate your bone and gum support, assess your bite, or understand your personal priorities. Its decision to cover, limit, downgrade, or deny a procedure is a financial determination—not a clinical diagnosis.
Our process is clear:
Your health comes first. Insurance is used to support you financially, but its limitations do not dictate our treatment recommendations.
Preserve Your Teeth Dentistry is a fee-for-service, out-of-network dental practice.
This model gives our doctors the time and clinical freedom to provide individualized care instead of allowing an insurance formula to determine what happens in the treatment room.
Our recommendations are based on clinical findings, professional judgment, scientific evidence, and the needs of the individual patient.
This is not “cookbook dentistry,” in which every similar-looking problem automatically receives the same treatment. Two patients with the same general diagnosis may require very different care because of differences in:
Fee-for-service dentistry gives us the opportunity to look beyond an isolated symptom, investigate why the problem developed, consider different treatment options, and create a plan intended to provide long-term health and stability.
The most conservative treatment is not always the fastest or easiest treatment to perform.
In many cases, preserving a natural tooth requires more advanced diagnosis, greater technical skill, additional treatment time, careful sequencing, and closer follow-up than removing and replacing it.
A compromised tooth may require a thoughtful combination of periodontal, restorative, regenerative, endodontic, laser-assisted, or bite-related care. This approach may be more complex for the dental team, but it can preserve more natural tooth structure, supporting bone, and gum tissue for the patient.
Fee-for-service care allows us to devote the necessary time to this type of treatment. It gives us the freedom to consider whether a difficult tooth can reasonably be maintained rather than automatically moving toward extraction and replacement.
We do not believe that more dentistry is always better dentistry. Often, the most responsible approach is the one that preserves the greatest amount of healthy natural tissue while providing comfort, function, stability, and a reasonable long-term prognosis.
Our name reflects the purpose of our practice.
Before recommending that a tooth be removed, we carefully evaluate:
An implant, bridge, or another replacement may sometimes be the most appropriate choice. However, replacing a natural tooth is not automatically simpler, faster, or less costly. Tooth removal may begin a longer process involving surgery, healing, bone management, restoration, and lifelong maintenance.
No dentist can guarantee that a compromised tooth will last forever. Nevertheless, when a tooth can reasonably be maintained, preserving it—even for additional years—may provide meaningful biological, functional, and financial value.
Our responsibility is to explain the reasonable options honestly so that each patient can make an informed decision.
Dental insurance is a financial contract between the patient, the employer or plan sponsor, and the insurance company. It is not a personalized treatment plan.
A plan may contribute toward a standardized procedure while limiting or excluding the additional diagnostics, advanced materials, regenerative therapy, laser-assisted care, or clinical time needed to manage a complex case conservatively.
In some situations, insurance may provide benefits for removing and replacing a tooth while offering limited benefits for treatment intended to preserve it.
This does not necessarily mean that tooth-preserving treatment is inappropriate. It means only that the insurance contract does not provide benefits for every aspect of the recommended care.
Similarly, a denial of benefits does not automatically mean that treatment was unnecessary. It means that the service did not meet the payment provisions of that particular plan.
Our responsibility is to recommend the care we believe is clinically appropriate—not merely the procedures appearing on an insurance company’s list of covered services.
Although Preserve Your Teeth Dentistry is an out-of-network practice, many patients with PPO dental plans still receive benefits for care provided in our office.
As a courtesy, our team can:
We make every reasonable effort to help patients receive the benefits available under their plans. However, benefit information and pretreatment estimates are not guarantees of payment. The insurance company makes the final reimbursement decision after processing the completed claim.
At Preserve Your Teeth Dentistry, we look beyond an isolated tooth or immediate symptom. We consider your periodontal health, supporting bone, bite, existing restorations, oral biofilm, medical history, risk of future disease, and the long-term consequences of each treatment decision.
Our approach may include:
This approach requires thoughtful diagnosis, clinical judgment, technical expertise, and adequate time.
Dental insurance can help contribute toward the cost of care. However, the treatment plan itself must begin with you—your diagnosis, your health, your risks, and your goals.
At Preserve Your Teeth Dentistry, clinical decisions come first.
